Dana Begg
(She/Her/Hers)
My name is Dana (she/her) and I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). I identify as a cisgender, able-bodied, white woman of mixed European background. I was raised in Indonesia, Scotland, and Norway and moved to Canada in 2015 to study psychology and counselling. With a masters degree in Counselling Psychology from Adler University, I now live and work on the traditional, unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples - the səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and xʷməθkʷəy̓ əm (Musqueam) Nations.
My goal is to use my empathetic and warm presence to enhance my connection with clients, to build rapport and trust, and ultimately to support the journey of healing, feeling connected to oneself. To create a non-judgemental and inclusive safe space for clients to share about their emotional pain and distress, I use a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive and strengths-based approach. My counselling style draws centrally from Feminist Therapy, Adlerian Therapy and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (CBT).
My experience working with marginalized individuals including, but not limited to, people in the LGBTQ2S+ communities, immigrants, and neurodivergent individuals. I have worked with children, youth, and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, attachment, and sexual and gender identity. I am passionate about the outdoors and expressive arts, and look to incorporate this into my work with clients.
